About Us

Introduction

SoCaM was established in October 2003 and is located within the Institute of Electronics, Communications and Information Technology (ECIT) at Queen's University Belfast.  Blue Skies research provides paradigm shifts required to propel industry forward and with this in mind SoCaM was established.

At January 2009 SoCaM moved to its second phase which is dedicated to deploying techniques developed in the first phase for the development of advanced integrated mobile wireless systems.

Thus SoCaM will be the foundry in which many of the ideas needed to perfect integrated mobile wireless systems will be perfected.  Ideas which only a few years ago were deemed to be not practically viable have already through mutual collaboration between SoCaM research partners has led to newways of transferring signals at incredibly high frequencies and with very high data.

The research team assembled combines the expertise of appropriate staff from the School’s of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Computer Science all of whom have impressive track records in their respective fields.  Each of the research groups has an international reputation for quality and industrial relevance of their research and for the broad range of financial support from government agencies such as EPSRC, EU and Invest NI, local and multinational companies they are continuing to attract.

Our Mission Statement:

“To develop world leading research focused at the establishment of paradigm defining techniques for the design of advanced integrated mobile wireless systems”

Major Research Themes:

  • Broadband wireless research
  • Incorporation of the RF, analog and digital functionality
