Business
One of ECIT’s strategic priorities is to develop collaborative relationships with other stakeholders including universities, research institutes and local and international businesses.
Relationships are facilitated in a number of ways. These include joint research and development programmes operated under a number a alternative methods such as:
- PhD student sponsorships
- Collaborative research and/or development, typically through a pre-defined contractual relationship
- Government assisted grant programmes
- EU funded projects in IST
ECIT also places a strong emphasis on technology transfer aimed at generating new business and commercial opportunities. In support of this objective, ECIT can provide:
- Space for spin-in companies aiming to benefit from in-house expertise
- Help for commercialising ideas and concepts generated by Institute staff, often through the creation of spin-out companies.
As part of ECIT’s entrepreneurial emphasis, the Institute works closely with Queen’s University to maximise licensing opportunities. It is also building a strong external support network of venture capital and ‘Angel’ funders, legal and financial experts and mentors to assist new entrepreneurs.
